Declaration of Slovenian flag and coat of arms

On June 24th 1991 Slovenian assembly determined today’s Slovenian flag and coat of arms, which together with the anthem signifies the belonging to Republic of Slovenia. The use of coat of arms, flag and anthem regulates the Acto of coat of arms, flag and anthem of Republic of Slovenia and of Slovenian national flag.

Coat of Arms

Coat of arms has the shape of the shield, in the middle of the shield is the shape of Triglav, the highest peak of Slovenia, under it are the wavy lines, which represent the sea and rivers. Above Triglav are three golden hexagon stars in the shape of bottom-facing triangle. Before the declaration of Slovenian independency, coat of arms of Socialist republic of Slovenia was in use, which was similar to the one used today. It is the work of Marko Pogačnik. The difference between today’s and former coat of arms is, that today’s has three golden stars, former was surrounded by grain ears, interlaced with red band and linden leaves. In the middle of grain ears was a red star.

Slovenian flag

Flag of Slovenia is white-blue-red with coat of arms on the top left corner. It was determined with 6. Article of Constitution of Republic of Slovenia and with Act of coat of arms, flag and anthem of Republic of Slovenia and of Slovenian national flag. The colors of the flag are Panslavic, which are present in almost every Slavic country.

The flag was raised for the first time on June 26th 1991 on Trg Republike (en. Square of Republic) in Ljubljana, on the pole was raised by officers of Territorial defence of RS: Bojan Šuligoj, Andrej Kocbek, Uroš Krek, Goran Vidrih in Stojan Ledinek.
