Stržišče fair
Day of fun and dancing

On Sunday, August 11th 2019 at 16:00 in Stržišče in Baška grapa, a traditional event called Stržišče fair will happen. It will start with cultural program and continue with live music. Accompanying program will be enriched with raffle.

Every Sunday in St. Lovrencu (August 10th), after completing the most difficult farm tasks, that are hilly mowing, harvest of wheat and sowing of turnips and buckwheat, was in Stržišče in Baška grapa the day of socializing, joy and dancing. Today, the former broad fields are lost in the meadows, but the holiday is still alive.

About the fair speaks the inscription in parish chronicle from year 1884, when that time parish priest recorded that at the »fair of this year, village elder Kikelj forbade dancing.« In times of Italian occupation between world wars, the fair lost its meaning. Cutters that were scouring scissors, repairing umbrellas and tinkling pots and clutters from Friuli and other places, who were selling retailers for every day were coming here. After WWII, there was no fair, only what remained were the meetings of townsmen and emigrants with fete. From year 2006 on LC Stržišče organized it together with Society Baška heritage and they enrich it with cultural program and socializing with live music.

This years program will start at 16:00 at event place next to the former school. The event will be designed by: CS Gorenj Konc from Livek, who will with comedy Golden wedding take care of the laugh and ensemble Two valleys, which will play for a happy gathering. The visitors will be able to try their luck with raffle and  hang out in the marketplace and have fun on the mechanical bull; children will be able to play on inflatable gaming.
