The view from the Begunjščica summit is wonderful, because of the hill’s favorable position. We can see Bohinj’s mountains, Martuljek’s group with Škrlatica, Triglav mountain chain, Stol, Vrtača, Košuta, Kamnik-Savinja Alps with Storžič and Ljubljana basin. Begunjščica is an elongated, long and narrow mountain ridge in Karavanke that extends from Smokuška mountain pasture towards St. Ana on Ljubelj; the ridge has several peaks. Highest peak of the Begunjščica ridge is Veliki Vrh with 2060 meters of altitude, followed by a few meters lower Srednji vrh and Begunjska Vrtača with 1997 meters of altitude. The south grassy slopes of the ridge rise above the Draga valley. At several sites the middle rock wall is interrupted by screes and channels, which is falling on Zelenica. The north walls are precipitous. Begunjščica holds many secrets and offers unlimited possibilities of exploring the natural beauties. Begunjščica is also known as the mountain of a hundred ravines, because their numerous presence on the mountain.
The mountain Begunjščica is accessible all year round. It is also suitable for backcountry skiing, when the screes are well covered with snow.
ROCKS OF THE RIDGE
The ridge consists of upper trias thick-strata limestone and dolomite, the south part is from jurassic contracted stratified limestone with cherts. In them, at the altitude from 1400 to 1600 meters, were found five important sites of lias hamites. There are also 13 known species of hamites, among which most belong to the family of Harpoceras, Phylloceras, Hildoceras and Lyloceras. In the lias limestone was also find 150 centimetres thick layer of chert covered in manganese ore. Once this ore has been excavated.
FLORA
Begunjščica ridge has rich grasslands on the south slopes below the summit. Adversity on this area is mainly due to the change in the geological substrate. Vegetation that can be found on the ridge: meadow fescue (Festuca laxa), edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum), Zois’ Bellflower (Campanula zoysii), Scorzonera purpurea (Scorzonera rosea), Gentiana pannonica (Gentiana pannonica), grass-leaved iris (Iris graminea) and Seguieri buttercup (Ranunculus seguin).

Born’s tunnel
Born’s created the most interesting technical masterpiece, the Born’s tunnels in Ljubelj. This tunnels were designed exclusively for the acces from Ljubelj to excessive moutain hunting grounds on the southern slope of Begunjščica.
