Blagaj path – informational board

Blagaj path got its name after a count Rihard Ursini Blagaj, who was first mayor of settlement Polhov Gradec. In times of his ownership the Polhov Gradec manor went through many progressively enlightenment ideas. Blagaj path belongs under the Landscape park Polhov Gradec hills. It takes around 1 hour to walk the entire path.

The path starts at Polhov Gradec manor, in front of side entrance into Castle park, where four informational boards are, with a presentation of the path, old village center, manor, and Dormouse’s adventure park. The path directs us towards beekeeping home, which was built by count Blagaj in honor of the king of Saxony arrival, who came to admire Daphne blagayana. Behind the home, ascent awaits, where slightly higher stands Blagaj monument in the shape obelisk.

The path leads us pass Dormouse’s adventure park with several sights along the way. Afterward, follows the descent towards castle water reservoir. The reservoir is a small building with a four-story roof. Inside is stone trough with water and ornamental painting and graffiti and inscriptions. In front of the water reservoir stands informational board. Here, Napoleon’s soldiers once quenched their thirst

The path runs at the edge of the forest and takes us from the reservoir along the road to the southern reservoir in the castle park. We can extend our walk with a light ascent to Calvary or Stari grad (en. Old castle) and by viewing the village center of Polhov Gradec, we reach it by going down the stairs or Usrana gasa (en. Crummy gas). The path returns back to the Polhov Gradec manor, where Blagaj trail ends.

Polhov Gradec is a settlement with rich cultural history and at the same, it is a center of upper Gradaščica valley and Polhov Gradec hills.
