The hollow in which today Bled lake lies was formed in Ice age by Bohinj glacier when it was moving north. On the way it ran into an obstacle, high limestone mass, which was not excessively damaged. From this elevation it picked up all the soft material, leaving behind only the rock in shape of a hill. This outlier magnificently rises on the northern side of the lake, with 139 meters height and offers a wonderful view to the surroundings of the lake. Here, since the Middle ages, stands the castle, after which a outlier is named. Access to the top of the outlier and to the castle is possible along the marked footpath or paved road, which brings us to the castle walls.
