Svarunova path is a circular hiking path that leads through places which were part of historical novel by Fran Saleški Finžgar Under the free sun, which he wrote when he served in Želimlje.
The first march was organized by the Tourist association Škofljica on 25th June 1996, on the National day. Since then it has become a tradition. Path is equipped with new boards, where more detailed explanations can be found.
The path starts under Ruskov hayrack, next to the Škofljica primary school. The path runs along hilly region to the Vrh above Želimlje, where it descends towards Želimlje into the Zelimeljščica valley. From here the path returns to its starting point. The entire route is 23 kilometers long and it can be walked in several sections. The path is commemorated with signposts and Knafelj’s markings at important places, where informational boards are placed. It runs along existing trails and paths where is not allowed to make damage to parcel owners, who voluntarily have allowed the pass through their territory. Along the way we meet with centuries old culture, historical and natural heritage of these places on the outskirts of Ljubljana marshes.
