Church of St. George, Kneža

The church of St. George

The church of St. George stands at the crossroads of the roads leading from Grahovo towards Most na Soči and from Kneža along the Kneža creek towards Kneške Ravne on the western edge of the village. Here once was a parish seat. It is a subsidiary church of the diocese church Mary of the Assumption in Podmelec. After the earthquake in the year 1998, the church was renewed and restored.

The church of St. George is basically a medieval church, which was built in the year 1762 at the site of the chapel of St. Francis Xavier from 30s of the 18th century. It consists of a three-way completed presbytery, a wider and higher ship, and a bell tower in front of the western facade. The wooden Baroque altar is marked with the year 1784.
