Statue of Goldhorn proudly stands on a large rock by lake Bohinj in the settlement Ribčev Laz and is a real attraction for photography. Goldhorn indicates the enchanting and mysterious land.
THE LEGEND OF GOLDHORN
Above Komna, in alpine paradise, there once lived white women, kind-hearted creatures. The herds were grazing in the mountains that were lead by a white goat with golden horns – Goldhorn. His horns were the key to immeasurable hidden treasure.
In the care of white women grew a young hunter from Trenta valley. He carried bouquets of mountain flowers to the girl in the valley, thus gaining her love. But one day, she was proposed by a wealthy Venetian merchant, who gifts her golden jewelry and says to her that her hunter, if he loves her enough, should bring her the Goldhorn treasure. Since then, the girl has no longer cared about the poor hunter.
The hunter was desperate and offended, and that is why he sets on a journey to find Goldhorn, which he sees in the morning on a high rock, but he forgot about his magical power. From the blood of the mortally wounded animal, miraculous Triglav flower grew.
Dying Goldhorn ate one of the flowers, and at the same moment, he regains his great life force. He runs towards the hunter, who frightened and blinded from the glow of the horns, plunges into the abyss. The rising Soča brought his body to the valley.
In his holy rage, the Goldhorn destroys his mountain paradise and forever disappears. White women also went with him. His treasure stays hidden in the mountains below Triglav.
BOHINJ PARADISE
Tine Mihelič describes Bohinj paradise in the alpine guide the Julian Alps with the following words:
»Get to know Bohinj! This means many years of searching and discovering ever new secrets. It also means constant enrichment. It is not true that Goldhorn hid all his treasure among the grey cliffs of Bogatin. In truth, he scattered it all around. You do not believe it? Just look up to the ridges at sunset! Catch the bright flash of drops that are spraying from overhanging cliffs! In summer step on a high mountain meadow or in autumn among larch trees! Stare into the depths of the pool of the mountain creek! … Goldhorn’s treasure is great, we used to think that it is immeasurable. Today we know that it is not inexhaustible and eternal. Everyone, Bohinj people and our guests, must protect it because we want to give it to our children as intact as possible.«

Ribčev Laz is a small settlement on the eastern part of Bohinj and it represents the center of happening and most known image of Bohinj.
