Mansion was built in 16th century and was first named Gayerav or Gayerau, which means “Volture glade”. Locals called it after the foxes in the nearby forests, Lisičje, as is called hamlet in which it is located. From Ivan Khiessel from Fužine, who might have the mansion in his possesion before year 1587, and all to the year 2006, when it was bought from Archives of the Republic of Slovenia by Municipality Škofljica, exchanged many owners.
Probably the most important was Lenart Merherič, named Fabjanič, who rebuilt the mansion and next to it regulated the largest floral, botanical and pomologic garden in Carniola. That floral and fruity luxury made stron impression on the state prince Janez Vajkard Auersperg, an important minister of Austrian emperors Ferdinand III. and Ferdinand IV., who lived his last year of life in the mansion Lisičje. The fate of the mansion was passed from hand to hand, as it was sold and bought even on auctions.
The last owner before the war was englishwoman Mary Lloyd, who lived in Trieste. At that time, the mansion still had luxury interior decoration, many antiques, righ library and a equipped chapel. About the beauty, orderliness and logical design of the mansion in past, more tells us copper engraving by Pavel Riter Vitezovič, on which depicts four-wing, one-storey building, covered with gable roof and is supplemented wiht three domer in the attic.
The main building of the mansion, lateral tract and the final tract on the north formed a closed rectangle. In course of time the manor design changed. Todays building is three-winged, since there is no final trackt, so that the lower side is open inner courtyard in the shape of latter U, closed with large massive iron door.In the courtyard is seen beautifly design arcades, which are in dual lines on all three walls. Courtyard its self extends in natural panoramic terrace, around which are centuries old linden trees. From here opens nice view to Molnik and village Lanišče, first mentioned already in year 1321, and can praise with a beautiful Gothic churc of St. Ursula.
On the northwest side of the mansion is a castle chapel, which was part of the design. The chapel has Baroque designed entrance. Front facade is seven-axled. Special element is just Baroque stone, rustic designed and semicircular concluded portal. The interior is today empty and unused. The ground floor has several rooms, partly connected, partly acccesible from internal arcade courtyard. The first floor has ten rooms different floor plan sizes. Rooms are without former decorations and the inventory after WWII was lost.
At the mansion probably once was a mighty park, about which says polyhistorian Janez Vajkar Valvasor in his Glory of the Duchy of Carniola. In the book expresses admiration for the park, in which expected to grow most distinguished plants, among them 107 species of tulips. In the pomologic garden should flourish lemons, oranges, pomegranates, almonds and may other types of fruit. Sadly today there is no more trace of the mighty castle park.
