White willow is located in a small park in front of Lavrič library in Ajdovščina. Along it runs footpath, just above the river Hubelj.
Willow got its name white by characteristic white color of the lower parts of the leaves, which are covered with dense silky haris. By the willow trees, age above 60 is already considerable, only a few of them attain 100 years. Given its poor vitality, also a willow at Hubelj is close to that age. Due to its dimensions her habitat within vicinty of water obviously exceptional suits her. White willow at Hubelj is one of the thickest in Slovenia. |
Willow bark was, in previous century, due to its high content of acetylsalicylic acid used as a remedy against fever and pain, but later it was replaced by the well known aspirine.
